Feeling better after a month of illness. Progress on Four of Swords and Guild of Assassins Book 4. Also saw Project Hail Mary at the cinema—thoroughly enjoyed it.
This week I’m finally feeling better after a month of illness, which means a welcome return to proper momentum.
I’ve been working on Four of Swords and also going back over my progress on Guild of Assassins Book 4, getting a clearer sense of where that story is heading.
I also went to see the film adaptation of Project Hail Mary, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s well worth a watch if you liked the book.
A much more positive and productive week all round.
Finished Three of Swords, made progress on Guild of Assassins Book 4, and started the second Dungeon Crawler Carl. A busy and productive week of writing and reading.
This week, I wrapped up Three of Swords (The Ravenglass Chronicles, Part 24)and moved straight onto writing a few chapters of Guild of Assassins Book 4.
It’s been great shifting gears between projects while keeping the momentum going.
On the reading front, I’ve jumped into the second Dungeon Crawler Carl book, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the ride so far. Safe to say, the series has me hooked.
A productive week all round—on the page and off it.
Finished writing Two of Swords and kicked off Three of Swords. I also share thoughts on Dark Matter by Blake Crouch—well worth a read if you like twisty sci-fi thrillers.
This week I finished writing Two of Swords and started work on Three of Swords, continuing my return to The Ravenglass Chronicles.
I also enjoyed reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
In exciting news, The Ravenglass Throne: Parts 5–8 boxed set is out today on Kindle and paperback.
And if you’ve not started the series yet, Parts 1–4 is free on Kindle until February 1.

🎉 7th Anniversary of the Author Diary Podcast:
This week marks the seventh anniversary of my Author Diary podcast. It’s been a wonderful journey of sharing insights, challenges, and triumphs from my writing life. I’ve enjoyed connecting with all of you, and I’m grateful for your continued support.
📖 Current Writing and Reading:
I’ve been making steady progress on “Forged in Blood,” the latest installment in the Guild of Assassins series. Writing this book has been an intricate process, weaving complex characters and dark themes into the narrative fabric. Alongside writing, I’ve been immersed in “Vengeful Spirit” from the Horus Heresy series, a gripping tale that complements the intense and dramatic tone of my own work.
👥 Reader Interaction:
In this special anniversary episode, I took the opportunity to answer some reader questions.
🏰 Prepping for Fantasycon:
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to be attending Fantasycon next weekend. I’ll be participating in four panels discussing topics ranging from rogues and grimdark to post-apocalyptic fiction and the portrayal of disability beyond the trope of ‘superpower.’ As I prepare for the convention, I’m excited to meet many of you there, share insights, and explore the diverse and dynamic world of fantasy literature.
Stay tuned for updates from Fantasycon and more adventures from the writing desk!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on podcast milestones, your experiences with fantasy conventions, or any questions you might have about writing and reading. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more weekly insights and updates from my author’s journey!
Welcome to this week’s Author Diary, where I share significant progress on “The Knight and the Rebel” and my current entertainment choices, from crime capers to sci-fi novels.
🖋️ Progress on “The Knight and the Rebel”
This week, I added another 20,000 words to “The Knight and the Rebel,” Ravenglass Legends book 3. This brings me two-thirds into Ragnar’s POV, pushing the story closer to completion. The writing has been flowing well, and I’m excited about the depth and development of the narrative.
🎥 Watching “The Gentlemen” on Netflix
I’ve started watching “The Gentlemen,” a new series by Guy Ritchie on Netflix. As a fan of Ritchie’s style, this crime caper series has been thoroughly enjoyable with its sharp dialogue and twisty plot lines. It’s been a fantastic watch that perfectly complements my downtime.
I’ve revisited the Warhammer 40k universe, reading two Primarchs novels: ‘Vulkan’ and ‘Ferrus Manus.’ While ‘Vulkan’ didn’t quite hit the mark for me, ‘Ferrus Manus’ has been gripping so far. It’s always intriguing to explore the lore and characters of this expansive universe.
As I continue with the drafting of “The Knight and the Rebel” and enjoy some quality reading and viewing, I look forward to sharing more insights and updates next week.
Feel free to discuss your experiences with prolific writing phases, your thoughts on “The Gentlemen,” or any Warhammer 40k novels you’ve enjoyed. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more updates from my author’s life and adventures in storytelling!
The launch has been my primary focus, and it’s thrilling to see it come to life.
🐺 Progress on The Wolf and the Wyvern
Despite the busy launch week, I’ve made significant strides in redrafting The Wolf and the Wyvern.
This week involved redrafting a chapter, removing another, and crafting a new one.
I’m now just 8,000 words away from completing Ragnar’s arc!
🎮 Reading Insights
Diving into Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.
I enjoyed the nostalgia as a former gamer and the book’s exploration of creativity and collaborative efforts in the gaming world.
🌱 Next Week’s Plans
After an eventful book launch, it’s time for a well-deserved rest.
I’m taking a break next week, so there’s nothing specific set on the agenda.
A time to recharge and gather inspiration for future projects!
