Jon’s Author Diary -July 14, 2023

Join me on my journey through the world of epic fantasy as I share updates on my second draft progress, character exploration, and more.

This week, I’m excited to share my journey as I continue to delve deeper into the world of my epic fantasy series, Ravenglass Legends. I’ve made substantial progress on the second draft, with 35,000 words already improved. I can’t wait to share this story with you.
I also wrote the first draft for a short story centreed on Maja, one of the point of view characters in the Ravenglass Legends. Discovering her journey and experiences has been a fascinating process, and I believe it will add a new layer of depth to the whole series.
I also completed another episode of the Guild of Assassins which goes live on Substack on Saturday. If you’ve been following along, you know that this is my ongoing novel series that I’ve been releasing weekly. The story is gaining momentum, and I hope you’re enjoying the ride!
This week wasn’t all about writing, though. I was fortunate enough to have a work experience student helping me out. They’ve been a great asset, creating stunning graphics and engaging videos to help bring my books to life and reach more readers.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I faced some technical challenges with WordPress, where the formatting got lost during the transition from Microsoft Word. It was a bit frustrating, but, on the bright side, I’ve found a workaround. So, stay tuned for more polished blog posts in the future.
Until next time, cheerio.

Jon’s Author Diary – July 7, 2023

This week, Jon balanced writing, web migration, and tax work. A new chapter of “Guild of Assassins” is ready for Substack. His website shifted back to WordPress. Amid tasks, he read “The Outcast Dead” and began “Deliverance Lost.” He plans to return to “Ravenglass Legends” next week.

Welcome back to Jon’s Author Diary for the week ending July 9, 2023.

This week has been filled with a fair mix of creation, organization, and some obligatory tax paperwork.

I’m delighted to announce the completion of another riveting chapter from my ongoing project, Guild of Assassins, which is scheduled to go live on Substack this coming Saturday. You won’t want to miss it!

Much of my time this week was consumed with a digital migration of sorts, moving my website back to WordPress – a task that required plenty of patience and attention to detail. In between the lines of coding and content organization, I tackled my taxes, something I’m sure we can all agree is a thrilling way to spend a week.

Amid all the work, I managed to find some treasured reading time, completing ‘The Outcast Dead’ in the epic Horus Heresy series. With no pause, I’ve already dived into the next book, ‘Deliverance Lost.’ I can’t wait to share my thoughts on these in an upcoming review.

Looking ahead, I’m eager to return to the heart of my craft – writing. Next week, I will be immersing myself back into the world of Ravenglass Legends with the second book, along with the continued work on Guild of Assassins.

Make sure to tune in next week to follow along on my author journey. Like, share, and subscribe if you haven’t already, and let’s continue this writing adventure together.

So, until next time, cheerio.

Jon’s Author Diary – June 23, 2023

In his 300th diary episode, Jon explores progress on “Guild of Assassins” and “Ravenglass Legends”. He also shares his thoughts on the Horus Heresy books and recent Netflix indulgences, offering a balance of creativity and leisure.

Welcome to the 300th episode of Jon’s Author Diary.

This week has been a tremendous journey, with progress on my books, indulgence in some fantastic reads, and a few hours well-spent on Netflix.

This week, I’ve been channeling my inner rogue while working on my book, Guild of Assassins, an exclusive Substack novel. It’s an intense exploration of the shadows where the silent killers dwell. Stay tuned on Substack for thrilling chapter updates and some behind-the-scenes revelations about this unique guild.

Book 2 of the Ravenglass Legends is underway. This week, I have made significant strides in developing the narrative arc and the characters. There’s plenty of surprises, mystery, and adventure to come.

In the midst of writing, I’ve also been indulging in some quality reads. This week, I’ve delved into the Horus Heresy books – “The First Heretic” and “Prospero Burns”.

Besides writing and reading, I’ve found some time to unwind with Netflix. I watched the Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary – an insightful, inspiring dive into the life of one of the most iconic figures in the fitness and entertainment world. “Killing Eve” also kept me hooked with its intense narrative and outstanding performances.

It’s been an exciting week of writing, reading, and relaxing with some fantastic TV. If you want to join me on this journey and never miss an update on the “Guild of Assassins”, follow me on Substack at joncronshawauthor.substack.com.

Celebrating Six Years SInce the Launch of Wizard of the Wasteland!

Join author Jon Cronshaw on his exciting writing journey, from the release of his latest novel to upcoming projects and a Facebook community. Discover the world of Ravenglass Legends and Guild of Assassins in this author diary.

Hello from sunny, rainy, sweaty Morecambe!

It’s been a full six orbits around the sun since I first introduced you to the desolate yet hopefuly world of Wizard of the Wasteland.

Wow! Time really does have a knack for performing its own magic tricks, doesn’t it?

I find myself reflecting on this amazing journey that started with a spark of an idea, flourished into my first novel, and then set the course for me to become a full-time storyteller for the past five years.

A heartfelt thank you for your support in making this possible. As a disabled author, it means I don’t have to deal with bosses (or more specifically, snooty HR reps) who ask whether working at a computer is the best for someone who is legally blind.

I get to tell stories for a living, and that is beyond amazing.

Ravenglass Legends

This past week, I wrote “The End” on the final draft of my next novel, The Fall of Wolfsbane, and it’s now in the capable hands of my editor.

And I’ve plunged right into the sequel, The Wolf and the Wyvern. With the first draft of the first point of view halfway through a redraft, and an entire second point of view still to write, there’s plenty of thrilling work ahead.

I’m so excited about this new series! Not only does it answer many of your burning questions from The Ravenglass Chronicles, but it will add an even richer tapestry of stories and adventures to the world we’ve been exploring together.

Guild of Assassins

If that wasn’t enough, I’ve also been working on Guild of Assassins, a tale I’m gradually releasing on Substack. This series paints a vivid picture of Soren, the master assassin from Dawn of Assassins. Remember the guy who refused to vacate our minds? Yep, him.

It’s been so much fun to delve into his journey, from the subtle craftsmanship of a sculptor’s apprentice to the deadly finesse of a master assassin.

Cover reveal: The Fall of Wolfsbane – Ravenglass Legends book one

Discover the epic tale of Ragnar and Maja in “The Fall of Wolfsbane,” a prequel set in the intricate world of the Ravenglass Chronicles. Immerse yourself in a rich fantasy realm!

If you’ve been following my Author Diary podcast, you’ll be aware that I’ve added a second point-of-view character to The Fall of Wolfsbane, and the story is so much stronger because of it.

Now, you can expect a full-length epic fantasy novel (it’s the longest novel I’ve written to date) that tells the story of Ragnar and his sister Maja as they are taken as hostages by the Ostreich Empire.

Ragnar is forced to live in Welttor under the mentorship of Prince Gregor, while Maja is sent to the Imperial Palace in Reichsherz to become a pet project of Princess Saranka.

It’s set several hundred years before The Ravenglass Chronicles at the time when the Empire first invades Wiete.

There will be some familiar places and even a familiar character!

As with Dawn of Assassins, you don’t need to have read The Ravenglass Chronicles to enjoy the story, but as I write more stories in this world, hopefully you’ll enjoy the little Easter eggs and how the world is different at various points in the timeline.

If you’ve not read the prequel Blades of Wolfsbane yet, you can get it for free as part of the Ravenglass Universe starter library.

If you’re a member of the Ravenglass Universe Facebook group, you’ll have already seen the cover for The Fall of Wolfsbane.

I love what Christian has done with this. It fits in nicely next to my Dawn of Assassins and Ravenglass Chronicles series.

As an author, getting a new cover is as close to the feeling I used to have opening presents on Christmas morning.

The designer gets the brief, you wait…and wait. And then something magical happens and the vague notes you made about the concept and colours come to life in front of you.

Of course, I still need to finish writing my redrafts, but having a cover definitely energises me to a book finished.

Here it is…
